Summary

Jack-of-all trades Jimmy Venables is probably the only man in Britain who gets divorced and ends up with his mother-in-law. That's not how he planned it, but then when does life go according to plan?

When Jimmy Venables' ex-wife volunteers to go to East Africa to help the victims of a natural disaster, weekend-dad Jimmy volunteers to take care of their two teenage kids full time in an attempt to win her back.

Unfortunately his posh mother-in-law, Diana, sees Jimmy as the true natural disaster and virtually moves in to keep order, keep an eye on things and undermine Jimmy wherever possible. Add to this a daughter who's sure she's already a woman and a son who dresses like one and you get a sense of the challenges Jimmy faces as he tries to be a real father on a daily basis. But that's okay. Jimmy never met a challenge he hasn't confronted head on... and been crushed by.

Created by Fred Barron, who also created BBC1's autobiographical 'My Family' (to his parents' dismay, he in fact was Nick), 'After You've Gone' continues Barron's exploration of his own family life. Focusing this time on one man's noble attempt at being a responsible adult and parent despite the fact he doesn't have a clue.
