Question:

Hi Celia, I have actually discovered 3 days ago that you exist on this planet! I know, shame on me! I’ve just seen Acorn Antiques (what could be found on youtube) and I find it absolutely hilarious! Made my day ... or night... whatever... These comedy roles suite you ...the hell good! (or maybe that’s the only thing my brain cells can absorb after a long working day, so I am being subjective... well, who cares anyway... :)) Is there any chance you’ll be performing something sometime soon somewhere in continental Europe? Anywhere?

Answer:

I like your style!  Due the the language barrier I won't be on continental Europe in performance.  (I did tour Italy with the Citizens Theatre in those glorious days when theatre was blooming)   However I will soon be appearing in a new pay at the Donmar in London - but it ain't a comedy!

Question:

Dear Ms. Imrie: I, too am descended from the Imries and was wondering if you could fill in any gaps in my family research? The first mention in Scotland is of Alamric, Lombard of Flanders - possibly Huguenot. My ancestor is a Johanna Imrie of Perthshire. It has proven extremely difficult to go back further as records are few and far between. any information at all would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:

You got further than me.  Although my mother's side goes back to God, by way of Old King Cole, my father's side only got me as far as my grandfather John Imrie living in a flat in the Gorbals in 1901.

Question:

You won't remember but 'being a fan yourself' - I recall seeing you outside the stage door of The Savoy after Bea Arthur's show some years ago (2003) - we exchanged a few words about her - wasn't she great? Hope 2010 goes well for you!

Answer:

What a sad loss.  Bea Arthur was a master of comedy timing.  How lucky we were to see her that night.

Question:

Hi Celia! Which of your roles have you most enjoyed playing, and why?

Answer:

Mrs Quickly in Nanny McFee because I love the taste of worms... actually no, but it gave me a glorious chance to over-act and roll on the floor with His Majesty Colin Firth

Question:

I was wandering what your first steps into the industry were? I am hoping to do the same after University next year and wandered if you had any advice?

Answer:

I spent years in the chorus, living on practically nothing, staying in vile stinking digs miles from home.  Slowly but surely it got better, but there is never any guaranteed route.  Some people start out playing Juliet at the RSC and never look back, others have to work very, very hard to survive.  Good luck!
